The pipes hidden in your walls do a lot of quiet work, and when they start to fail, the signs are easy to miss until there is a real problem. Here are five signs your home might be due for a repipe.

1. Discolored or Rusty Water

If your water comes out brown, yellow, or tinted — especially after the taps have been off for a while — it can point to corroding pipes. That is worth having looked at sooner rather than later.

2. Recurring Leaks

One leak is a repair. Leak after leak, in different spots, usually means the pipes themselves are near the end of the road, and patching them one at a time gets expensive fast.

3. Low or Inconsistent Water Pressure

Corrosion and mineral buildup narrow old pipes over time, choking your water pressure. If pressure has slowly gotten worse across the whole house, the plumbing may be the cause.

4. Old Pipe Materials

If your home is older and still has its original galvanized or polybutylene plumbing, it may be living on borrowed time. Knowing what you have is the first step.

5. Water That Tastes or Smells Off

A metallic taste or odd smell can be a sign of pipe corrosion getting into your water.

What a Repipe Solves
